I feel like I need to hit up New Orleans Square in Disneyland. Thankfully I will be doing that this Friday for Dapper Day!

So yes, that’s me. This is my personal/public Tumblr. Please follow it because I do more music postings there than I do here. I’ll still continue to post here, but definitely not regularly. Just when I feel the need to express myself through the songs Eye like.

I couldn’t wait until morning! So I’m going to post a few shots of me from the lovely Satori Photography. I’m wearing one of my fave bralettes, a fedora from Christine De La Creme, and Eight Sixty shorts courtesy of Moderne.

Rilo Kiley - Silver Lining (Video) (by rilokiley)

I miss this band.

feat. Manic Pixie Dream Girl

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am quite obsessed w/the idea of pixies - including the trope “Manic Pixie Dream Girl.” I decided to look up some music on SoundCloud to see if I could find something that captures the spirit of MPDGs. This is one of the tracks I found.

I don’t know much about it, other than it is titled “Believing” and uploaded by the user “Represent,” and features Manic Pixie Dream Girl. I assume that is the vocalist?

Either way, this track has that melancholy undertone that I love so much. It’s pretty and sad. It reminds me of a lighter Zola Jesus. Not quite as dark, but still in the same emotional vain.

Musically this song is pretty well produced. I love the weaving of synths and beats, how the bass is present yet subtle - until of course you get to the dubstep break down. But even that is well placed and not face melting or overbearing. This song is what a lot of pop music should be.

Def Jam Rapstar: Producer’s Profile - DJ Khalil (by DefJamRapstarGame)

The producer behind tracks for Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas, 50 Cent and many more talks about the difference between a being a beat maker and a producer.”

I decided to Google the thoughts of others on DJing vs Producing, and instead found this. It’s interesting to see that there are arguments of DJs vs Beat Makers vs Producers. The funny thing is that most producers start off as either DJs or beat makers or musicians. There really shouldn’t be an argument of what your title is, the argument should be about whether you are good or not.

Selena Gomez - Hit The Lights

Still deciding whether or not I like this. Selena Gomez continues her trend of dance tracks w/her song “Hit the Lights.” I like the youthfulness of the song, and the video captures it pretty well. It’s fun and reminds me of 18+ indie/electro/nu wave dance nights (BTW IDGAF who you are and how cool you might want to seem, ain’t no shame in having gone to an 18+ rager… it’s only a shame if you’re significantly older and can’t find your own parties to go to). It’s like a PG-13 version of Calvin Harris+Rihanna “We Found Love.”

As for the song… another EuroDance/Progressive Trance track that has invaded much of our Top 40 airwaves. The lyrical content is nothing spectacular but fitting for a pop track. It’s cute. But my friends know I’ve been on this kick where I have been avoiding this sound because it is terribly overplayed. This is why I cannot say whether I like Selenita’s “Hit the Lights” or not.

Alright fine, I admit it - it’s catchy and I’ll probably be jamming out to it sooner or later in my car!

Give Me All Your Luvin’ (Feat. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj) (by madonna)

I love all of these ladies separately (I’m a sucker for pop, what can I say?) but away from the Super Bowl Half Time Show - I am not a fan of this song or video. The half time show was produced and choreographed well - well enough to forget that “Give Me All Your Luvin’” is not a spectacular song. Watching the video, you’re faced w/both a song that is only so-so and a video that reminds you of cheesy marketing gimmicks.

The song itself is very much about Madonna. I see nothing wrong w/that as it is her track w/her name in it… but to make it even more ego-centric she has MIA and Nicki Minaj wearing cheerleader uniforms for her. They hardly sing or rap in the song - and I don’t know about you, but when an artist is featured on a track, I expect a little more. I don’t want to say this about Madonna, but her trying to remain relevant is more apparent in this track. I mean, why else feature the current top female rapper and a pop singer w/a banging “come back” single (“Bad Girls”)?

But again, I love these ladies and that Super Bowl performance was the best in years. I’ll just treat this entire thing as marketing for the Bowl (which I don’t doubt is true) and is not an actual single.

SOKO :: First Love Never Die (by SoKoMusic)

This song is so adorably cute, it makes me sad. It’s true - to some extent - your first love never dies. But you know, I think this applies to anyone you really had that great rush of puppy love with. Think… “We Found Love” Rihanna+Calvin Harris style… but this song is the aftermath.

I haven’t listened to too much of Soko’s music, aside from “I’ll Kill Her” (oh and that song used to DEPRESS ME), but hearing this makes me smile sweetly. Maybe I’ll listen to more of her songs.
